Is Your Wireless Network Secure? 3 Essential Questions to Ask...

At Reboot, we take cybersecurity seriously—especially when it comes to wireless networks. A poorly secured Wi-Fi network is an open invitation for hackers, malware, and data breaches. When we assess a network’s security, these are the first three questions we ask:

1. Is Your Network Encrypted? If So, What Type of Encryption Are You Using?

🔹 Why it matters: Without proper encryption, your network is vulnerable to cyber threats, allowing hackers to intercept sensitive data.🔹 What to check: Are you using WPA2 or WPA3 encryption? If your network still relies on WEP or WPA, it’s time for an upgrade—older encryption standards are outdated and easily cracked.

🔹 Reboot’s Tip: If your router doesn’t support WPA2 or better, consider upgrading your hardware immediately. Your network security depends on it!

2. Is Your Wireless Network Name (SSID) Public? Does It Reveal Your Identity?

🔹 Why it matters: Many businesses name their Wi-Fi networks after their company, which makes it easy for hackers to identify and target them.

🔹 Reboot’s Tip: If you must broadcast your SSID, use a name that doesn’t link back to your business. Instead of “Reboot-OfficeWiFi,” go for something generic like “CoffeeShopGuest” or “BlueSky_Network.”

3. Do Guests or Non-Employees Use Your Network? If So, Do You Have a Secure Guest Network?

🔹 Why it matters: Letting outsiders connect to your internal Wi-Fi can be risky. Even well-meaning guests could unknowingly introduce malware or security threats.🔹 What to do: Set up a dedicated guest network that is completely separate from your primary network. Make sure it’s encrypted with WPA2 or WPA3 and uses a different password from your main business network.

🔹 Reboot’s Tip: Never let visitors connect to your internal network. A single infected device can spread malware to your entire system. Keep guest access separate and secured!
